Ceremony

Storytelling

Our ancestors would commune around the fire to pass down stories. Bringing a song, poem, or your story medicine to share is completely optional.

Don't have one? We've got you. We'll be facilitating a storytelling session so that you'll have something you can utilize for how to respond when people ask, "What do you do for a living?"

Meet the Facilitators

Karissa Raya

Karissa Raya of Olive la Vida supports families in documenting the beautiful milestones of life.  Her services range from birth support, placenta encapsulation and birth, family, portraiture, lifestyle and brand photography.

Karissa’s intention with her camera is that her subject, whether it be a family, entrepreneur or a woman giving birth, that they feel seen.

Photography is so much more than a single moment, Karissa considers herself a visual storyteller and historian.   For the families she documents, she imagines generations from now, their family members looking upon the photos and telling stories having so much gratitude that they have photos at all that keep their family history alive.

Read her story medicine here.

Rumi Sol

Rumi Sol is a trauma therapist, she migrated from Korea to Southern California when she was three. Alongside her struggle to feel belonging in her cultural identity, and trying to find a vocabulary to understand her queer identity within a religious upbringing. It was only after her experiences as a survivor that I began to seek out a healing path that led her to where she is today. Rewriting her life story gave her the permission to embrace the fullness of selfhood outside of all the ideas I internalized about who she was supposed to be.

It is her highest intention to serve as a steward of our collective healing, allowing others to see the inherent magic & worthiness within themselves and those around them.

Mayana Geathers

Mayana Geathers is a feminist therapist (LMFT), writer and creator of original guided meditations. She is committed to social justice, healing and empowerment as it relates to all aspects of our well being. Mayana is one of the co-founders of the feminist therapy group practice, Bridges to Healing: Counseling and Training Center, which offers a collaborative and inclusive approach to counseling services, trainings and advocacy.

Danellia Arechiga

As a multi-dimensional mama, birth worker, singer, songwriter, musician, speaker, and healer, Danellia use this medicine to heal her generation as well as past and future generations in my lineage. She holds close to her heart the stories and wisdom of her grandmother and her great grandmothers who were the women who helped other birthing folks before the medical industry took that away from them. She called in her guides and ancestors who led her into this work as she remind birthing folks and their families of their innate wisdom and strength throughout their pregnancy, birth, and parenting journey.

Rathana So

Rathana So is the founder of PlantBerri, a plant-based food start up that offers innovative plant-based food products to support healthy lifestyle choices.
Born in Los Angeles and raised in Long Beach, she is oldest of 5 children born in a family of Cambodian genocide survivors.

Plantberri came about as a solution to So’s quest to find high-quality plant-based food options. Her vision is to build the PlantBerri into a resource of not just clean plant-based foods, but a plant-based lifestyle that is easily accessible. You can find her doing pop-ups, special events, and holistic retreats.

About Your Guide:

June Marisa Kaewsith, also known as "Jumakae," is a TEDx speaker, professional artist, and storytelling coach. As an artist, she has conducted spoken word workshops and mural projects with various youth groups, and has facilitated theater skits with community members addressing local issues from workers' rights to environmental justice. As a keynote speaker, she has motivated crowds through her original poetry in high schools, college campuses, and various nonprofit groups throughout California. Clients who have sought her as a storytelling coach are change agents who have gone on to tell their stories on large stages in front of thousands of people, entrepreneurs pitching project proposals and product launches to board rooms for a handful of investors and funders, and individuals or artists seeking confidence in their ability to speak authentically and share their work publicly.

Through her additional practice as a wellness consultant, she is a 200 hr registered yoga teacher trained to work with survivors of sexual trauma and a transformational life coach (which she rephrases as "life doula"). With her passion for the arts and somatic learning, she holds self-care and storytelling workshops for organizations and individuals to strengthen team relationships and wellness culture from a social justice and trauma-informed lens.
